TOPS chapter 0458 meets each Tuesday evening at the Community of Christ Church located at 2880 B 1/2 Road in Orchard Mesa.
Weigh-in begins at 4:30. The meeting begins at 5:30.
TOPS is an international organization dedicated to helping people find their own, sensible way to a healthier lifestyle through weight loss. For more information on TOPS, you can visit their web page at www.TOPS.org.
TOPS does not have a specific diet or food plan. TOPS primarily is designed to provide a system of support and encouragement to help each of us meet our own weight loss goals.
Membership in TOPS begins with a $32.00 registration fee to the national organization. In addition, we pay $5.00 a month to our local chapter to help with activities and support our members with events such as the State Recognition each year.
We are weighed in at each meeting. Our weight is not announced to the group, but is recorded by the Weight Recorder. As we go through role call, members who lost are applauded by the group. Those who did not lose, celebrate that they are attending the meeting and are able to give and receive support by saying, "I'm glad I'm here." There is no judgement or criticism.
There are many ways we offer incentives and reward weight loss:
The most important motivator is the support we receive from each other.

There are many ways we offer incentives and reward weight loss:
- We each put .25 in the kitty at weigh-in. The person with the best weight loss for the week wins the money.
- Our treasurer keeps a fine jar. A person who gains weight pays .25 for every pound or part of a pound gained.
- Each week, we announce our bottom line to the group. This is a goal that we make to change an action or habit for the next week. Members who do not keep their bottom line are fined .25.
- TOPS encourages us to keep a food journal. "If you bite it, write it." Each week a member keeps the journal, he or she signs the food journal grid. When the grid is full, there is drawing of the names written. The winner gets the money in the fines jar.
- We have a traveling mystery gift. A member purchases an item (less than $10.00) and wraps it in multiple layers. The biggest loser for the week takes off one layer of paper. The person who unwraps the final layer wins the item and purchases the next gift.
- In addition, we have a variety of games that we play. Currently, we are having a contest to encourage us to reach out to others between meetings. We receive 1 point for each member we contact during the week up to five. After eight weeks, the person with the most points will win a supply of Avon products donated by Cindi.
The most important motivator is the support we receive from each other.
